Our topic for this half term is “Summertime”. Various activities both indoors and
outside will be provided to enhance the children’s learning opportunities across
the areas of learning of the Foundation Phase.
In addition to our topic based learning, Sunflowers continue to have various
focussed sessions to include music and movement, gardening, recycling and
preservation in conjunction with the Eco-Schools programme, pre-school focus
groups with Read Write Inc. and numeracy sessions for those preparing for the
transition to “big school” this September. Gareth, our local librarian will
visit us every other Tuesday for storytime and we will be welcoming visitors to
nursery to support our topic based learning. This half term we also continue
working towards the Healthy Snack Award and moving on to the Silver Eco-Schools Award having achieved the Bronze in April.
May I remind parents that Sunflowers session times are strictly 9a.m. – 11.45a.m.Please ensure that children arrive no earlier than 9a.m. and are collectedpromptly at 11.45a.m. It is important that children arrive promptly at 9a.m. as we have “circle time” at the beginning of every session to welcome the children and introduce the morning’s activities. Please ensure that you contact us by text or call to the number below should you be delayed or if your child/children will not be attending a session. Please note that following health
and safety guidelines, we are unable to accept children for 48hrs.
following the last episode of sickness or diarrhoea. We would like
to remind you that all children need to bring a change of clothes to be left at
nursery along with a named pair of wellies and a named drinks beaker with a lid
please. Please ensure that your child brings a piece of fruit or healthy snack
such as raisins each day to share in our “snack café”.
This week has seen the launch of our lunch club facility which is already becoming popular. Lunch club runs after every session from
11.45a.m. to 1.00p.m., at a cost of £3 per day. Please book the regular days you require to ensure your child’s place. Additional days subject to availability, simply bring a healthy packed lunch and £3 to nursery at 9a.m. on the required day. Lunch club is intended to provide a valuable social opportunity for the children to eat with friends and staff, learn about different kinds of foods, share in conversation and enjoy both freeplay and structured activities after lunch.
Our last Rag Bag collection was a huge success with £100.50 raised! Our next
collection will take place at the end of May so please donate your old clothes,
linen, shoes, bedding, bags and belts over the next few weeks.
Please check the website regularly for diary dates and regular updates and if you use Facebook, please add Sunflowers Nursery! Those of you who haven’t given us your e-mail address, please do so a.s.a.p. as all correspondence will be via e-mail very soon. For those of you that have given us your e-mail address, you have
been added to our mailing list. Please ensure you check your e-mails and
confirm that you agree to mailings from Sunflowers.

Over the past term, the children at Sunflowers have been very busy planting daffodil bulbs, watering them and protecting them from the frost! They have decorated pot covers and learned about the importance of light and water to their plant. We embarked on this project to raise money for Marie Curie and as part of our topic, the children have been learning about the fantastic work that the Marie Curie nurses do to help others.
Each child has taken home a sponsorship/donation envelope which they need to bring to nursery on Wednesday 22nd February as we celebrate the success of the children’s efforts with a variety of daffodil themed activities on “Mini Pots Of Care Day”.

On Shrove Tuesday, 21st February, the children will return from the half term break to a great fun session to include our sponsored pancake toss at 11am. All children are welcome to join in even if they do not usually attend on a Tuesday, to arrive at 10.45am with their grown ups. Each child will need to bring a ready made pancake and lightweight frying pan, will walk a route around the nursery grounds (weather permitting) tossing their pancake as they go. The event will be covered by the local press and we hope that all our parents, grandparents, friends etc. will come to support the children please. Don’t forget to start collecting your sponsors for the big day!
